Bob Newhart's affair with Las Vegas started at the Sahara Hotel where he made his debut in October 1963. His opening act was Sergio Franchi, the great Italian tenor. Newhart tells the story of Franchi sending them a baby gift when they arrived in town, as his wife was pregnant with his son Rob who would be born one month later.
